Words Worth Books and the The Children’s Museum are presenting our newest family series; Books & Babies. Join in the fun twice a month to learn about the importance of reading to your new child and to hear stories, play games and sing songs. Reading to your baby early and often sets the stage for later reading success. According the 1985 American National Commission on Reading, reading aloud to children is "the single most important intervention that parents can make in ensuring their child’s later reading success."

Production Workshop - Aladdin Junior (Ages 8 - 16)

Cloth Diaper Workshop

What?
Are you a parent-to-be considering using cloth diapers, but you just don't know where to start? Are you a parent of a child in single-use diapers, and you want a better alternative? Are you a parent of a child in cloth diapers, and you have some questions about your current diapering system? Then this workshop is for you! This workshop is an opportunity for you and your significant other to view cloth diapers 'in real life', and to ask any questions you might have. The following issues will be addressed: 1) the benefits of using cloth diapers (covering environmental issues, health issues, and cost savings); 2) overview of the basic types of diapers (prefolds, fitteds, pocket diapers, all-in-ones) and how to use them; 3) overview of what you need to get started; 4) storing / washing diapers; 5) cloth diapering at night; 6) cloth diapering on the go. *** It will be an informal, entertaining hour, and we would love to have you join us! Train to be a Labour Support Specialist
When? This 2-day workshop runs on November 7 & 8, 2009.

This 2 day workshop will provide participants with skills to begin a new and exciting career as a Professional Childbirth Suppoprt Specialist (also known as a Doula). A Doula is defined as a woman experienced in childbirth who provides advise, information, emotional suppport and physical comfort to a mother before, during and in the post partum period of childbirth. A Doula does not replace a partner, mid-wife or doctor!! Rather she is valuable addition to the maternity team, ensuring the woman and her partner have the birth experience they desire.

A Christmas Carol

DuffleBag Theatre presents the Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. This riotous romp through the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future is performed with members from the audience acting as key characters. "Everything Beaver" & "Hooked on Waterloo Region"

"Everything Beaver" is a display of beaver items from the private collection of Sherwood Hagey. See a stuffed beaver named "Jacques" proudly gnawing on a stump in our parlour. Make a beaver crown. "Hooked on Waterloo Region" will showcase 25 original art work by members of the Kitchener-Waterloo Rug Hooking Guild. Walk-In Counselling Clinic
What?
The Walk-In Counselling Clinic serves two purposes: 1) as the “access” or intake point for most of our counselling services, and 2) at the client’s request, to provide a one and half hour single session to determine the nature of the problem and to leave with a plan to address the issue(s). Referral Process: No referral process is required for our Walk-In Counselling Clinic. Simply come to our office on Thursdays during our Walk-In Counselling Clinic hours. We endeavour to have clients seen as quickly as possible, and work on a first-come, first-served basis. If, however, a large influx of individuals come in late in the day we may have to ask people to return the following week. Wait times also vary according to the arrivals of clients.

Bond with your baby and enjoy a great postpartum workout. Your baby will love the movement and the music, you'll love the workout and connecting with other moms. You and your new baby can enjoy all the benefits of bellydance. Have fun moving your body while easing the demands placed on your body by pregnancy, childbirth and infant care. Special attention will be given to posture and balance, and rebuilding core strength and flexibility. A great way to bond with your baby and introduce them to musicality. Dress comfortably, and if you have one, bring a scarf to tie around your hips. Our wellness space and classes are breastfeeding friendly. Previous dance experience is not necessary.

What?
A yoga class just for tweens! Energize. Breathe. Relax. Benefits of Yoga: 1) Uninterrupted you time; 2) An increased sense of mental calmness; 3) Becoming more relaxed and less worrisome; 4) Enhanced performance in other physical activities; 5) The ability to de-clutter your mind and focus on what truly matters.

Prenatal Yoga
What?
Our prenatal and postnatal yoga programs will inspire women to trust their bodies, strengthen their minds, and open their heart to the life-changing process of birth. Class will make extensive use of props to be inclusive for each trimester of pregnancy. We recommend that you consult your midwife or your doctor before beginning our prenatal yoga classes. You do not need to have practiced yoga to join us in prenatal yoga classes.
When? Thursday session: November 12 - January 7, excl. Dec. 24 and 31 (6:30 to 8 pm); Wednesday session: November 25 - January 20, excl. Dec. 30 (6 to 7:30pm).
