Ronald McDonald reads at Cambridge Libraries

What?
The Cambridge Libraries are thrilled to announce that Ronald McDonald will be in the region, clowning around and reading to kids in support of literacy. The world's most famous and recognizable clown will be passing through the Queen’s Square branch for an hour of reading stories, photos and interactive crafts to help spark the love of reading in children. Cambridge Library programmers will also be in attendance, singing, dancing and leading activities kids will love including creating fry containers complete with Popsicle fries! Reading with Ronald will take place at 1 North Square in Cambridge from 11:00am to 12:00pm in the children's programming area on the second floor of the Queen’s Square Library. The event is free and all children are welcome to join in the fun.

FREE Parent Child Stranger Awareness Workshop
When? Friday, July 10, 2009 from 6 - 7pm
What?
Join us for a free interactive workshop on Stranger Awareness. The first half hour will be spent with kids in one room with an instuctor, talking about Stranger Awareness and learning some self defense techniques. The parents will be in another room, discussing how to effectively talk to kids and set good safety habits. During the last half hour kids and parents will come together and do some role playing to solidify their new skills.

Cherry Festival

A Bug Hunting Adventure

What?
Take an up-close and personal look at six-legged, eight-legged and no-legged creatures. Learning to appreciate insects will involve rolling logs, sweeping the field and handling some spineless wonders. We will bring the nets and jars, all you need to do is leave your bug spray and bug jackets behind and come out to discover the wonderful world of insects. This program is free with park admission.

Forbes Park Music Festival

Art in the Yard

Our annual outdoor juried art exhibition and sale is once again held on the two acre grounds of the Elora Centre for the Arts, in the heart of Elora. With over 50 artists exhibiting only original work - there is sure to be something to intrigue everyone. Hespeler's 150th Anniversary Picnic

An old fashioned "Family Picnic in the Park Day". Explore the Pond

What?
Get your boots on. We'll be searching for and identifying frogs, crayfish, leeches, giant water bugs and all other animals that call a pond home. Equipped with our nets, pails and magnifiers we will examine them to find out how they breathe, move, eat, and protect themselves. Bring your park permit to participate.

A Rock walk with an optional messy ending

What?
This will be a leisurely stroll to visit one of Rockwood's largest caves. For the adventurous there will be the option of crawling into one of the tunnels. If you plan on participating in the cave crawling please bring a flashlight and wear clothing that covers your knees and elbows. It has an optional messy ending. Creature Features: Twilight Family Night
When? Friday, July 17, 2009 from 7 to 9:30pm
What?
Be lured by a tour. Features are creatures of the night. Was it a bird, was it an alligator or was it all a myth? Since 1953 that question has baffled residents of Wilmot Township. Children can find out about the myth of the Nith as the sun is setting over Castle Kilbride on July 17. After a fun and interactive tour of the Castle, families can meet other creatures featured on the front lawn. Mad Science will wow with cool demonstrations and the Snake Lady will introduce you to all of her ssssuper friends.

Archaeology Adventure Day

The past comes alive at Crawford Lake Conservation Area. Join us for Archaeology Adventure day, a great day of discovery and exploration into the past. Visit the Turtle Clan Longhouse for a demonstration of traditional fire starting techniques and storytelling. Visitors can explore the Iroquoian village, view fascinating videos, and make a clay pot to take home. Be sure to participate in a discovery hunt and win a great prize. Kids can take part in a simulated dig at the Crawford lake site. Learn how and why Archaeologists do what they do and find out more about fascinating artifacts and Ontario’s First Nation’s. This activity takes place at 11am, 1pm, & 3pm. Space is limited, so pick up your FREE tickets in the gift shop. Come to the Visitor Centre Auditorium to visit with Dr. Jock McAndrews and Charles Turton as they explain the mysteries of Crawford Lake through displays and hands on opportunities.

Bring the little ones out to experience the fun in our kitchen! At our 'Bring Your Child' Sessions, the kids are by your side helping to scoop, mix and assemble your meals. Enjoy coffee, juice and nut-free treats while you prepare your meals together. The parents say their kids just love eating the dishes they made themselves here at SupperWorks. It will take a about an hour to make 6 full sized meals. Each meal serves 4-6 people, and can be split into 12 meals that serve 2-3 people. Due to popular demand we have added a second 'Bring Your Child' Session to each month! Bring home 6 full sized meals for $159.

Annual Afro-Festival

What?
The Afro Festival is an annual festival of dance, music, drama and African cuisine celebrating the rich cultural heritage of all 54 countries that make up the African continent. The festival has become a huge rallying point for all Africans living in this region and an awareness and education connection with service providers, researchers, some business organizations and the larger community. There are also vendors displaying food, traditional dresses and crafts. There are kids activities and professional African cultural troupes from outside the KW area to perform various African dances.

Those Camelot Days

The Singer’s Theatre Junior Ensemble presents Those Camelot Days - A Tale by Sir Ian Hopkins. The show is a revue of many musical theatre songs wrapped around a story about the knights of the round table trying to pull Camelot out of a recession! The evil duchess or Cornwall attempts to take the Red Dragon and sell it for parts, but the citizens (mostly the women!) come together to save the day. It is a swashbuckling tale of community spirit!

An Evening with the Bats

Millrace Festival of Traditional Folk Music

What?
This free festival, now in its seventeenth year, is patterned after European festivals whereby the day’s events are held on numerous outdoor stages in the town core. Traditional forms of folk music and dance are the festival’s theme with emphasis placed upon the various cultures present in Cambridge and surrounding area. Arts, crafts, and an excellent choice of food and refreshments are also available at the festival site and from the many fine eating establishments in downtown Cambridge. Local and internationally renowned performers, are selected each year to reflect a most diverse and entertaining mixture of musical cultures. For the children, we have a specially reserved area with its own unique program of music, dance, clowns, crafts and other fun stuff!!
