Millrace Festival of Traditional Folk Music

What?
This free festival, now in its seventeenth year, is patterned after European festivals whereby the day’s events are held on numerous outdoor stages in the town core. Traditional forms of folk music and dance are the festival’s theme with emphasis placed upon the various cultures present in Cambridge and surrounding area. Arts, crafts, and an excellent choice of food and refreshments are also available at the festival site and from the many fine eating establishments in downtown Cambridge. Local and internationally renowned performers, are selected each year to reflect a most diverse and entertaining mixture of musical cultures. For the children, we have a specially reserved area with its own unique program of music, dance, clowns, crafts and other fun stuff!!

The Pirate Festival

A day of fun and excitement on the High Seas! Board a real Pirate Ship, learn how to swashbuckle, and hunt for real treasures! Visit our Merchant Village! The Merchants will tempt you with their selection of quality plundered goods from around the globe. Three stages of live music, comedy and dance for all ages will be running throughout the day with special shows and activities for the wee pirates.

6th Annual Ice Cream Festival, 2010

Tribute to Woodstock 2010
When? Saturday, August 7, 2010 from 4 to 10pm
What?
It is a public festival, held for the first time last year in honour of the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock rock concert. The event is based on getting the average person more aware of environmental issues, and encouraging them to impact the world through their lifestyle and getting involved. This is done by inviting local environmental organizations to set up information booths, talk to participants and speak to the crowd in-between bands. It also includes a free concert by local bands, free byo t-shirt tye-dyeing (bring a blank white article of clothing to Tye Dye for Free!) and mural painting. Organizations so far include REEP, Reduce the Juice, Grand RIver Car SHare, Sustainable Waterloo, Rethink Waterloo, and a recruitment booth from the Faculty of ENV. We will also be having representatives from WPIRG's anti-bottled water movement, and Bring a Travel Mug or Water Bottle for free tea or juice from our Bottled-Water Free Zone.

An Evening with the Bats

Our annual Sprit Sings event is a magical evening of traditional First Nations teachings, games and foods. Enjoy hearty Iroquoian foods, play traditional games, and learn many secrets of the forest as you participate in a guided evening hike. Special guest Joe Paquette will take you back in time and give you a new perspective with the gift of storytelling. This event is not recommended for children under the age of 8. Bring the little ones (ages 4 - 11) out to experience the fun in our kitchen! At our 'Bring Your Child' Sessions, the kids are by your side helping to scoop, mix and assemble your meals. Enjoy coffee, juice and nut-free treats while you prepare your meals together. The parents say their kids just love eating the dishes they made themselves here at SupperWorks. It will take a about an hour to make 6 full sized meals. Each meal serves 4-6 people, and can be split into 12 meals that serve 2-3 people. Storytelling & Creative Thinking (Ages 4 - 6)

We invite all parents of children between the ages of 4 to 6 years who live in or near the Kitchener-Waterloo area to come for a one-time 1 hour visit to the Centre to take part in a study which looks at the impact of different forms of storytelling on children’s creative thinking abilities. Prenatal Yoga by Blue Skies Yoga

What? Our prenatal and postnatal yoga programs will inspire women to trust their bodies, strengthen their minds, and open their heart to the life-changing process of birth. Class will make extensive use of props to be inclusive for each trimester of pregnancy. We recommend that you consult your midwife or your doctor before beginning our prenatal yoga classes. You do not need to have practiced yoga to join us in prenatal yoga classes.
